Bio-Informatics (When Technology meet Medicine)

Overview

Bioinformatics or commonly called Biomedical Engineering is a discipline that combines engineering focus and scientific methods and technology to solve problems in medicine and biology. One focus of these disciplines aim is to process medical information, which will also help medical procedures. So in the end, the function of this discipline is to improve the quality of human health. One system that focuses on this area isWireless Biomedical Signal Monitoring System. Wireless Biomedical Signal Monitoring System is a system that develops an algorithm methods to get information from physiological signals. The purpose of this system is to identify the properties of the wireless signal that can be used in medical and biological fields.

System

On such systems, there is an application that includes information gathering (collecting information), diagnosis (diagnosis / analysis), monitoring (monitoring), therapy and control, and evaluation. These things will be combined to build a bioinformatics system that can improve medical quality. Hardware specifications that can build such a system include Wi-Fi (wasteful in energy), Bluetooth (limited range), and Zigbee (saving battery). However, there are limitations which become obstacles in the system. Boundaries it is the presence of a very weak size parameter, a signal can not be accessed or is not easy to measure (eg blood pressure), there is feedback between the system that is not yet understood, the equipment must be easy to use and should be in accordance with existing disease, and the The latter is a problem SAFETY (minimize voltage or electric shock). Some real applications of this system is bedside monitors, mobile patient (located in an ambulance), home telecare system, and remote health system.

One of bioinformatics research developments in evolve Country is closely connected with the agricultural revolution and food. One technology used is genetically modified. With this technology, we can produce a superior crop species. One example is rice, the staple crop of Asia citizens. Vulnerable rice pest, slow growth, and low productivity in rice yield is now replaced by genetically modified rice. Genetically modified rice has now inserted antihama producing genes derived from bacteria, photosynthetic enzyme genes from C4 plants such as corn and sugarcane to boost growth and productivity, even producing gene inserted beta-carotene to improve nutrition of rice. In my opinion, health becomes very important at this age. Humans want to continue to live healthy and have a long life. With bioinformatics, improving the quality of human health will increase. However, for the better development of bioinformatics, other factors are needed to increase it. Another factor is the energy / power used (must be a minimum), the distance range (can reach long distances), the ability of mobile (wherever it can handle patients), as well as user interface (to make the user comfortable to wear).
